Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming RPG, Avowed, emphasizes significant player choices that shape the game’s story and outcomes. The game, set to release on February 18, 2025, will showcase the developer’s classic commitment to choice-driven narratives, resulting in various possible endings determined by the player’s decisions throughout the adventure.

When Obsidian Entertainment first discussed Avowed, they highlighted the intricate choice and consequence mechanics that would drive the game. Similar to their previous titles, these mechanics impact the storyline and the ultimate conclusion of the game. Over time, the specifics of these outcomes and the extent of divergence in the endings have become clearer, with recent information revealing a substantial number of ending variations reflecting player choices.

Complex Choices and Endings

Game director Carrie Patel shared insights during an IGN interview, indicating that Avowed will feature ending slides “in the double digits.” These slides will reflect the myriad of choices players make throughout the game, offering a personalized conclusion. Patel emphasized that the sum of the player’s decisions across various game elements will determine the final outcome.

“I can tell you that our ending slides number in the double digits, and you can end up with a lot of different combinations of them,” Patel stated. “This is an Obsidian game, so your ending is really the sum total of your choices across the game.”

Variations and Distinctions

The numerous ending slides do not necessarily equate to over ten distinct endings, but rather a complex array of outcomes influenced by player actions. RPGs often use a series of slides to resolve various narrative threads, each reflecting the choices made. This approach ensures that each playthrough can feel unique, even if the core endings are limited in number.

Avowed is poised to launch with advanced graphical features such as Nvidia DLSS 3 and ray tracing on PC, promising a visually impressive experience. The game’s release on Xbox Series X/S and PC marks a significant addition to Obsidian’s portfolio, continuing their tradition of immersive and choice-rich RPGs.

Avowed’s extensive choice and consequence mechanics will likely set it apart in the RPG genre. The promise of numerous ending variations based on player decisions will encourage multiple playthroughs, offering a replayability factor that enhances the overall gaming experience. Gamers can look forward to exploring the depth and breadth of the narrative paths available in Avowed, anticipating a game that rewards careful decision-making and exploration.
