Apple has proactively addressed numerous security vulnerabilities in its latest software updates, ensuring enhanced protection for its diverse range of devices. The company’s commitment to user security is evident as it releases patches not only for its newest operating systems but also for older versions still in active use. This comprehensive approach aims to safeguard sensitive information and maintain the integrity of its platforms.

Recent reports indicate that Apple’s latest updates build upon its ongoing efforts to mitigate security risks. Unlike previous updates that primarily focused on newer devices, this release extends support to older models, reflecting a broader strategy to protect a wider user base. This move marks a significant expansion in Apple’s security measures, addressing both longstanding and newly discovered vulnerabilities.

What vulnerabilities do the new patches address?

The latest software updates from Apple tackle a total of 207 vulnerabilities across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and Safari. Specifically, iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 address 62 issues, macOS Sequoia 15.4 fixes 131 vulnerabilities, and Safari 18.4 resolves 14 defects. Notable among these are CVE-2025-24221, which risks exposing sensitive keychain data from an iOS backup, and CVE-2025-24245, potentially allowing unauthorized access to saved passwords in macOS.

How were the zero-day threats exploited?

“Both zero-days were actively exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific target individuals,” Apple stated.

The first zero-day vulnerability, CVE-2025-24201, in Apple’s WebKit engine, allowed attackers to escape the Web Content sandbox and perform unauthorized actions. The second, CVE-2025-24200, enabled attackers with physical access to disable USB Restricted Mode on locked devices. These exploits underscore the importance of timely updates to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches.

Which devices are affected by the updates?

Apple’s security updates are not limited to the latest devices. Older versions of iOS and iPadOS, specifically iOS 15.8.4 and 16.7.11, along with iPadOS 15.8.4 and 16.7.11, also receive patches to address the identified vulnerabilities. This ensures that a broader range of iPhones and iPads remain secure against emerging threats, providing continued protection for users who may not have upgraded to the newest models.

Apple’s extensive security update demonstrates its ongoing dedication to protecting user data and maintaining platform integrity. By addressing a wide array of vulnerabilities across both new and older devices, Apple ensures that its ecosystem remains robust against potential threats. Users are encouraged to promptly install these updates to benefit from the enhanced security features and to stay informed about best practices for device safety.
