Managing communications can be challenging, especially when remembering to send timely messages. Apple has addressed this concern by introducing a built-in message scheduling feature across its devices. This new functionality aims to streamline the process, eliminating the need for cumbersome shortcuts.

iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia now include an option to schedule messages in advance on iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Released as part of the Apple WWDC 2024, this feature marks the first time iOS users can schedule messages directly within the Messages app.

How to Schedule Texts in Messages

To use this feature, ensure your device runs on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, or macOS Sequoia, accessible through Developer Beta builds before the official fall release. Users can set their messages to send automatically, simplifying communication management on Apple devices.

Open the Messages app on your iPhone or iPad, start a new conversation or open an existing one, type your message, and then tap the Plus icon followed by More. Select Send Later, use the sliders to set the desired time, and tap the upward arrow to schedule your message. On a Mac, the process is similar: open Messages, start a conversation, click the Plus icon, choose Send Later, set the time, and press Return to confirm.

RCS Messaging Support

iOS 18 will also support RCS messaging, a significant update for users who frequently communicate with non-iPhone users. This enhancement aims to create a more seamless messaging experience across different platforms.

Google introduced a similar scheduling feature in its Messages app for Android in 2021, providing a built-in solution much earlier than Apple. Before this update, iOS users had to rely on custom shortcuts within the Shortcuts app, a more complicated and less integrated method. Apple’s new feature simplifies the process, bringing it in line with Android’s capabilities.

Historically, Android users benefitted from native text scheduling, giving them an edge in convenience. Apple’s update closes this gap, offering similar functionality to its users, reflecting a shift towards enhancing user experience in messaging applications. The inclusion of RCS support further bridges the gap between different operating systems, making communication more fluid.

Key Takeaways

– Apple introduces message scheduling in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia.
– Users can schedule messages directly within the Messages app.
– iOS 18 includes RCS messaging support for non-iPhone users.

Adding a message scheduling feature to Apple’s ecosystem represents a significant step in improving user experience. This update aligns Apple with other platforms, like Android, which have offered similar features for years. The inclusion of RCS support in iOS 18 indicates Apple’s commitment to broadening its communication capabilities, making it easier for users to stay connected across different platforms.
