Console players of Call of Duty will soon have a new option to disable crossplay in unranked matches, addressing long-standing concerns about matchmaking quality. This update arrives with Black Ops 6 Season 3, set to launch on April 2. Players will now manage crossplay preferences beyond ranked modes, potentially enhancing their gaming experience.

Why Disable Crossplay? How Will Matchmaking Be Affected? What Are the Community Reactions?

Previously, crossplay settings were limited to ranked multiplayer and Warzone, restricting players’ ability to control their matchmaking interactions. The expansion to unranked multiplayer marks a significant shift in Activision’s approach, responding to community feedback and evolving player needs.

Why Disable Crossplay?

Players may choose to disable crossplay to avoid uneven competition and reduce encounters with cheaters. Activision acknowledged that restricting crossplay could help level the playing field, particularly for those seeking a more controlled and fair gaming environment.

How Will Matchmaking Be Affected?

Selecting “Consoles Only” or turning crossplay off may lead to longer queue times due to a smaller pool of available players. Activision cautioned that these settings could negatively impact matchmaking speed, especially in less populated playlists.

What Are the Community Reactions?

The gaming community has mixed responses, with some applauding the change for addressing cheating issues, while others express concerns about potential increases in queue times.

“As a PC player… Hate this change, but I get it. I hope it doesn’t affect queue times for the game in the long run so I’m not forced to buy the game on PS5 to have a good experience,”

stated a Reddit user.

The introduction of crossplay toggles in unranked matches offers Call of Duty players greater control over their multiplayer experience. By allowing players to choose their matchmaking preferences, Activision addresses concerns related to cheating and fairness. However, the potential trade-off in queue times highlights the need for a balanced approach to maintain matchmaking efficiency. Understanding these changes can help players make informed decisions about their gaming settings, ultimately contributing to a more satisfying and tailored gameplay experience.
