Capcom’s sequel to its action RPG, Dragon’s Dogma 2, is enhancing player immersion by limiting fast travel and removing quest boards. The game’s design focuses on a more organic discovery of quests and exploration, diverging from the traditional methods seen in the original.
Organic Quest Discovery
Quests in Dragon’s Dogma 2 will not be highlighted by NPCs with markers; instead, characters will approach the player if they have tasks to offer. The game minimizes map icons for points of interest, relying on the player’s curiosity and interaction with Pawns—companions in the game—to discover new paths and opportunities.
Exploration and Side Content
The game encourages players to explore its world and take on challenges as they arise, with Pawns from other players able to guide to known quests. Director Hideaki Itsuno has promised an abundance of optional side content that many may not discover, adding to the game’s depth and replayability. The impact of a single save slot is intended to heighten the sense of consequence and engagement with the game’s world.
Set for release on March 22nd, Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Further details on the Pawns and their functionalities can be found through Capcom’s informational content.
