Electronic Arts (EA) is ramping up efforts for the future of its flagship shooter series, Battlefield. Despite the mixed reception of Battlefield 2042, the company is investing significantly in the franchise, with several of its studios collaborating on the next installment. EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson has provided a brief update, hinting at an ambitious project that aims to revitalize the series.

Collaborative Development Efforts

EA has mobilized multiple studios to work on the next Battlefield game. Lead developer DICE is joined by Criterion Games, who is spearheading the single-player campaign. This comes after Ridgeline Games, previously part of the Battlefield development team, was shut down earlier this year. Additionally, Motive Studio, known for Dead Space, is forming a new team dedicated to Battlefield. Wilson emphasized the ambition behind this initiative, stating,

“This is not just one of our top priorities, it is also one of the most ambitious projects in our history.”

Community and Project Vision

During EA’s recent quarterly earnings call, Wilson expressed confidence in the assembled development team and the technological resources at their disposal. He highlighted the community’s enthusiasm, remarking that fans are eager to see what the future holds.

“The community is energized by what our teams are doing and excited for what comes next,”

Wilson said, reinforcing the project’s significance for EA.

Reports suggest that the next Battlefield game is aiming for an October 2025 release. Ripple Effect Studios is also contributing to the franchise, reportedly developing a standalone free-to-play battle royale title. This multi-faceted approach indicates EA’s commitment to diversifying and expanding the Battlefield experience beyond traditional formats.

Previously, Battlefield 2042 faced criticism for various issues, prompting EA to rethink its strategy for the series. The decision to involve multiple studios and focus on both single-player and battle royale elements reflects a shift in their development approach. These efforts aim to address the shortcomings of the previous game and deliver a more comprehensive experience.

EA’s ambitious plans for the next Battlefield project mark a significant shift in their strategy. The involvement of various studios and the focus on both single-player and free-to-play modes highlight a comprehensive approach to revitalizing the franchise. As the target release date of October 2025 approaches, it will be crucial to see how these collaborative efforts and diversified gameplay experiences resonate with the community and impact the series’ future success.
