As anticipation builds for the release of Star Wars Outlaws later this month, players are eager to experience the first fully open-world game set in the iconic Star Wars universe. Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment have revealed fresh insights into the diverse planets and moons that will feature in the game, offering new locales alongside familiar ones to captivate both new players and longtime fans.
Comparatively, this new installment will expand significantly on the universe seen in previous Star Wars games, which mostly focused on linear, mission-based gameplay. The shift to an open-world format aims to provide a more immersive and explorative experience, allowing players to traverse iconic settings and new territories seamlessly. This approach differs from earlier Star Wars games that confined players to a more restricted environment.
Familiar and New Worlds
Several familiar planets will be included in the game. Tatooine, the iconic desert planet, and Kijimi, known from The Rise of Skywalker, will feature prominently. Additionally, the Outer Rim planet Akiva and a completely new location, the windswept savanna moon of Toshara, will be part of the game’s expansive universe. Moreover, Canto Bight, a fan-favorite location, will also be included, although it is absent from the trailer.
Launch Details
Star Wars Outlaws is set to launch on August 30 across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment have shared the PC requirements, which include an SSD and 65 GB of storage. The game aims to bring a new level of depth and interactivity to the Star Wars franchise, leveraging the capabilities of next-gen consoles and high-end PCs.
“We wanted to create an experience where players feel like they are living in the Star Wars universe,” said a representative from Massive Entertainment. “Exploration and discovery are key elements that we have focused on to enrich the player’s journey.”
While previous Star Wars games have provided memorable experiences, Star Wars Outlaws promises to elevate the franchise by offering a truly open-world experience. This shift aims to attract a broader audience and retain the interest of dedicated fans. The inclusion of both iconic settings and new locations ensures a blend of nostalgia and novelty, which could set a new standard for future games within the franchise.
