At the bustling Fan Festival in Tokyo, fans of Final Fantasy 14 garnered insights into the highly anticipated expansion, Dawntrail. However, an official release date was notably absent from the updates. Naoki Yoshida, the game’s producer and director, on the festival’s opening day, disclosed the presence of a target date within the team but stressed the importance of perfecting the expansion before making any public announcement.
Learning from Past Experiences
The decision to withhold the release date stems from the desire to avoid a repeat of the delay experienced with Endwalker, a key expansion initially set to launch in November 2021 but postponed to early December. Yoshida expressed his intent to prevent a similar situation with Dawntrail, emphasizing the team’s commitment to a meticulous preparation schedule to ensure a smooth release.
Summer Release and New Features
Yoshida reassured fans that the expansion would launch during the summer season, distancing the timeline from the often mocked “Square Enix time” and drawing parallels to the timely summer release of Final Fantasy 16. Despite the lack of a specified date, the window for release is set between May and September, accommodating the summer period’s varying definitions.
The expansion, Dawntrail, invites players to explore Tural, referred to as the New World, and introduces fresh Jobs, including the Viper and Pictomancer. With the addition of the Beastmaster slated for a later release, fans eagerly anticipate the fresh content, showcased in the full trailer and previews of new areas and Dungeons.
