ScaleCam, developed by Foresight Autonomous Holdings Ltd., is a cutting-edge 3D perception technology designed to enhance the capabilities of autonomous vehicles. Launched in 2023 by the Israel-based company, ScaleCam utilizes stereoscopic vision technology, incorporating advanced image-processing algorithms to generate high-quality depth maps. This system stands out because it allows for the independent placement of visible-light and thermal infrared camera modules, ensuring accurate obstacle detection and distance measurement over long ranges without mechanical constraints. ScaleCam’s innovation lies in its ability to enhance depth perception, crucial for autonomous navigation and safety.

In previous reports, Foresight has consistently highlighted the advantages of their stereoscopic vision systems. The company has emphasized the importance of reliable and accurate obstacle detection for autonomous vehicles. Past collaborations between Foresight and other automotive partners have demonstrated significant advancements in vehicle perception systems, proving the effectiveness of their technology. Compared to earlier partnerships, the current agreement with KONEC brings a renewed focus on integrating scalable and adaptable vision systems into the autonomous driving ecosystem.

Earlier news articles have also shed light on KONEC’s efforts to incorporate information processing technology into automotive systems. By developing license-plate recognition systems and collaborating with companies specializing in system-on-chip (SoC) technology, KONEC has positioned itself as a leader in advanced automotive solutions. The partnership with Foresight leverages KONEC’s expertise in lightweight metal production and assembly processes, enhancing the integration of high-tech vision systems in vehicles. This collaboration marks a significant step towards achieving fully autonomous driving capabilities.

Foresight ScaleCam to Enhance Autonomous Capabilities

The collaboration aims to integrate Foresight’s ScaleCam 360º 3D perception technology into autonomous vehicles. This technology is expected to provide accurate surroundings perception, significantly enhancing the safety and capabilities of self-driving cars. ScaleCam uses two visible-light cameras and advanced image-processing algorithms to achieve seamless vision and reliable obstacle detection. Its unique design allows for the independent placement of camera modules, ensuring precise distance measurements over long ranges without the need for mechanical constraints.

Foresight’s approach to overcoming the limitations of traditional stereoscopic vision systems, which require constant calibration, involves placing stereo cameras on a fixed beam. This innovative solution allows for greater flexibility in camera placement, providing better distance accuracy at long ranges. The technology promises to support large baselines, making it a crucial advancement for long-range obstacle detection in autonomous vehicles.
