James May, a renowned car presenter and former host of Top Gear, offered his thoughts on the Tesla Cybertruck in a recent review. He expressed admiration for the vehicle’s brutalist design and innovative features while suggesting that a smaller, similarly styled electric vehicle would be a welcome addition to Tesla’s lineup.

May’s Thoughts on the CybertruckAppeal for a Smaller Tesla

Tesla’s unconventional designs have frequently been discussed in the automotive community. Previous reviews of the Cybertruck have generated mixed reactions, ranging from admiration for its futuristic aesthetic to criticism over its practicality. May’s perspective adds to this discourse, emphasizing the appeal of the Cybertruck’s styling in a more compact form.

May’s Thoughts on the Cybertruck

James May shared his review on his YouTube channel, James May’s Planet Gin. He noted the Cybertruck’s substantial size and distinctive design, highlighting its steer-by-wire system, four-wheel steering, and signature Tesla attributes. May acknowledged that the vehicle’s aggressive, angular design could be striking in a smaller vehicle, comparable to the dimensions of a Ford Focus.

Appeal for a Smaller Tesla

During his review, May expressed a desire for Tesla to produce a smaller electric vehicle with the same design language as the Cybertruck. He likened such a vehicle to iconic designs like the Lamborghini Countach, which captivated enthusiasts in the 1980s. May’s appeal to Elon Musk centered on the idea of creating a compact, stylish electric car that would stand out on the road.

“I think the Cybertruck is very ballsy and quite humorous, but I am quite glad it exists. And if I can make a little appeal to Elon Musk, ‘Could you make something about the size of the Model Y or maybe even a little smaller—still like a Tesla with all this Tesla stuff in it—but styled like this? I’d go for that,” May said.

Despite his usual indifference to pickup trucks, May admitted a fondness for the Cybertruck, calling it a polarizing but visually compelling vehicle. He appreciated its ability to make other vehicles appear mundane by comparison. His review also highlighted his personal experience with other Tesla models, such as the Model S 100D and a reengineered Model 3.

James May’s request for a smaller vehicle echoes sentiments from previous discussions about Tesla’s product lineup, suggesting a potential market for compact, stylish electric cars. His comments underline the versatility of Tesla’s design principles, which can appeal to a broader audience if adapted to different vehicle sizes.

Creating a smaller, Cybertruck-like vehicle could help Tesla tap into a new segment of electric vehicle buyers, potentially increasing market share. The automotive industry continues to evolve, and consumer preferences are shifting towards more diverse and innovative designs. May’s insights reflect this trend and suggest future directions for Tesla.
