Kia has taken a significant step in enhancing the convenience for its electric vehicle (EV) owners by granting access to a vast network of Tesla Superchargers. This move is expected to alleviate range anxiety and provide Kia drivers with more flexibility during long-distance travels. By integrating with the Tesla infrastructure, Kia aims to strengthen its position in the competitive EV market.

Kia’s decision marks a considerable expansion from their previous charging options, significantly increasing the number of available charging stations for their EV users. This partnership leverages Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network, which has been a cornerstone for many EV owners seeking reliable and fast charging solutions.

Kia Expands Charging Network with Tesla Superchargers

Owners of the Kia EV6, EV9, and Niro EV models can now access over 21,500 Tesla Supercharger locations across North America. This collaboration effectively doubles the number of available charging stations for Kia EV drivers, ensuring greater accessibility and convenience.

Access Through CCS1 Port and NACS Adapter

To facilitate this access, Kia EV owners equipped with a CCS1 Charging Port can utilize an NACS adapter available through dealerships. This adapter bridge the compatibility between Kia’s current charging ports and Tesla’s Network Access Charging System (NACS). Starting with the 2025 EV6 and 2026 EV9 models, Kia plans to include NACS inlets as standard, eliminating the need for an adapter.

Kia Issues Apology to Tesla

Kia America is aware of marketing posts by certain Nordic distributors. These initiatives were developed entirely independently by those distributors, without direction from Kia America, Kia Europe or Kia Global. We want it to be clear that these posts do not reflect the position of Kia America, and we remain committed to clear and professional communication that reflects our values.

In addition to expanding charging access, Kia addressed previous actions that were perceived negatively by Tesla. The company condemned recent attacks disrupting charging availability and clarified that certain marketing efforts by regional distributors were not endorsed by the global Kia organization.

Kia’s integration with Tesla’s Supercharger network represents a strategic move to enhance the practicality of owning a Kia EV. By increasing the accessibility of fast charging options, Kia not only improves the user experience but also demonstrates its commitment to supporting sustainable transportation solutions. This partnership may set a precedent for future collaborations between EV manufacturers to create more unified and expansive charging infrastructures.
