MediaTek has introduced its new Genio 720 and Genio 520 platforms, aiming to enhance the performance and capabilities of IoT devices through advanced edge AI technologies. These platforms are designed to meet the escalating needs of smart homes, retail environments, and industrial applications by offering robust processing power and energy-efficient operations. With support for the latest generative AI models, these platforms promise to deliver improved user experiences and ensure data security across various devices.
Compared to earlier Genio models, the Genio 720 and 520 offer significant upgrades in neural processing capabilities and memory capacity. These enhancements allow for more complex AI tasks and better integration into a broader range of IoT devices, reinforcing MediaTek’s position in the competitive edge AI market.
What Are the Key Features of the Genio 720 and 520?
The Genio 720 and Genio 520 platforms boast a 6nm process node and feature an octa-core CPU configuration consisting of two Arm Cortex-A78 and six Cortex-A55 processors. These IoT platforms support up to 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, enabling the handling of large language models like Llama and Gemini. Additionally, they offer advanced multimedia capabilities, including support for multiple high-resolution displays and efficient video decoding and encoding.
How Do These Platforms Enhance AI Processing?
Equipped with MediaTek’s 8th-generation Neural Processing Unit (NPU), the Genio 720 and 520 deliver up to 10 TOPS of processing power, providing full hardware acceleration for transformer and CNN models. This allows for the efficient execution of complex AI tasks on the device, reducing latency and ensuring real-time responsiveness. MediaTek’s global AI ecosystem further supports developers in deploying multi-modal generative AI applications effectively.
“With our integration of NVIDIA TAO and widely-adopted AI models for Edge AI applications, developers can scale their designs across different products and form factors, from smart retail displays to sophisticated industrial HMI applications.”
When Will Customers Access These New Platforms?
Sampling of the Genio 720 and Genio 520 platforms to customers is slated to begin in the second quarter of 2025. MediaTek’s partners are also preparing to release Open Standard Module (OSM) solutions based on these platforms later in the year, which is expected to expedite the development and deployment of various IoT applications.
“The Genio 720 and Genio 520 will unleash a new era of IoT innovation with powerful yet efficient generative AI capabilities on-device, offering a seamless user experience that also ensures data privacy,”
