Planet Coaster 2 continues to evolve its virtual theme park platform with the release of its second major update. Building on previous enhancements, this update allows players to personalize their parks with customizable video billboards. These additions aim to provide a more immersive and creative experience for enthusiasts of the simulation game.
Since its launch last November, Planet Coaster 2 has steadily expanded its features, addressing community feedback and introducing new tools for park management. Previous updates focused on improving ride simulations and user interface elements, setting the stage for the latest enhancements that further enrich the gameplay.
How Do Custom Video Billboards Enhance Player Creativity?
The introduction of video billboards allows players to place advertisements throughout their parks, featuring both pre-made and user-uploaded content. Players can showcase various attractions, food and beverage options, and mascots, adding a unique touch to their parks. For those who prefer personalized content, the ability to upload custom images and videos in .webm format offers greater flexibility.
What New Features Support Enhanced Audio Integration?
Game director Rich Newbold highlighted the audio capabilities of the new billboards.
“The billboards in your park will be playing the audio from your videos out into the park,” Newbold explains. “But you have the ability to connect existing speakers to the billboard so that it will actually play through the speaker itself.”
This feature allows for seamless audio integration, enabling players to play custom music or announcements throughout their parks.
What Additional Improvements Address User Experience?
Beyond video billboards, the update includes synchronization for rides like coasters and flumes, and “de-themed” variants of existing rides for easier customization. Other enhancements feature improved control over user notifications, filters for the multi-select tool, and a preview option for the path and pool tool. These changes aim to streamline the creation process and reduce frustration from previous limitations.
Regarding bug fixes, the update resolves several guest-related issues, such as ensuring guests change attire before leaving and preventing panic states after collisions. These fixes contribute to a smoother and more realistic park experience, addressing longstanding concerns from the player community.
Financially, Planet Coaster 2 has seen mixed performances. While some reports suggest the game did not meet Frontier’s financial expectations, other sources indicate a positive impact on the company’s profitability, supported by strong holiday sales. The game has sold approximately 400,000 copies, marking an improvement over previous titles like Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin.
Planet Coaster 2’s latest update not only introduces new creative tools but also enhances existing features to provide a more polished and user-friendly experience. Players can expect continued support and future updates as Frontier Development Refinements seeks to balance creative freedom with technical stability, ensuring the game remains engaging for its community.
