Recent speculations suggest that Nintendo’s upcoming next-generation gaming console may hit the market in the latter half of 2024. As the Nintendo Switch approaches its seventh-year milestone, the gaming community is finding these rumors increasingly credible. It is anticipated that game developers have already received development kits to start creating titles for the new platform, with a survey from the Game Developers Conference (GDC) indicating this is the case.
Survey Reveals Developers’ Engagement with Nintendo’s Future Console
The Video Games Chronicle (VGC) reported on a survey conducted among nearly 3,000 industry developers, revealing that 8% are actively working on projects for the rumored Nintendo Switch 2. This survey, part of the GDC’s State of the Game Industry report for 2024, hints at the active development of games for the unannounced console.
Interest in Nintendo’s Next Console Rises Among Developers
Despite the lack of an official announcement for the new console, developers are likely bound by non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), which suggests the actual percentage of developers working on the platform could be higher. When asked about the most intriguing console currently in development, 32% of developers expressed interest in the successor to the Switch, trailing behind PCs at 62% and the PlayStation 5 at 41%.
The industry has been abuzz since last year with reports that the Switch 2 was showcased to a select group of developers during private demonstrations at Gamescom. These events have further fueled the anticipation for Nintendo’s next big move in the gaming console market.
