Samsung, in collaboration with Google, is reportedly progressing on the latest iteration of Wear OS, which will be rooted in Android 14. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 and its Classic variant are expected to be the first devices to come equipped with the new Wear OS 5 platform.
Next-Gen Exynos Chip to Power Wear OS 5
Reports from 9to5Google suggest that Samsung is proactively tailoring an Android 14 version for its forthcoming Exynos wearable processor, set to be the heart of the Galaxy Watch 7. The spotlight is currently on Samsung’s cutting-edge 3nm wearable chip, which is anticipated to run the latest operating system.
The Evolution of Wear OS
Historically, significant updates to the Wear OS platform were delayed. Wear OS 2.2, based on Android 9, was released in 2018, followed by the Android 11-powered Wear OS 3 in 2021. Last year, Samsung introduced Wear OS 3.5 and the Galaxy Watch 6 with Android 13-based Wear OS 4.
The transition from Wear OS 3.5 to 4 did not showcase major enhancements. However, the forthcoming Wear OS 5 on the Galaxy Watch 7 is set to deliver substantial improvements. Coupled with a new chipset and operating system, Samsung’s next-gen smartwatches aim to elevate the user experience significantly.
