Enhanced Communication ServicesGlobal Coverage Strategy

Previously, Skylo focused on integrating its Non-Terrestrial-Network for IoT devices, ensuring wide-area coverage through its Mobile Satellite Services spectrum. This partnership with Qualcomm expands their service to smartphones, illustrating progress in delivering comprehensive satellite access without terrestrial spectrum allocation. Other collaborations in the past have emphasized different aspects of satellite integration but did not prioritize mobile handset connectivity as prominently as this initiative. These efforts highlight an ongoing trend to enhance connectivity for remote and emergency situations, showcasing a shift towards more versatile communication technologies.

Enhanced Communication Services

The Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF System is central to this development, optimizing data speeds and connectivity while maintaining efficient battery usage. Designed to support two-way text messaging, location sharing, and SOS alerts via satellite, the technology ensures users remain connected under challenging conditions. This marks a shift in how smartphones can operate, offering more robust solutions for users in isolated areas without relying solely on traditional cellular networks.

Global Coverage Strategy

Skylo’s global network encompasses nine Earth stations across various partner constellations, covering over 50 million square kilometers. This extensive reach allows smartphones equipped with Snapdragon X80 to transition seamlessly between cellular and satellite networks. The use of dedicated MSS spectrum underlines Skylo’s commitment to offering uninterrupted service without the need for terrestrial spectrum allocation, avoiding regulatory complexities.

“First we brought seamless NTN to IoT and together, we’re making significant strides in smartphone connectivity. We are extremely proud of this collaboration with Skylo and look forward to what’s possible as we continue expanding satellite access to other industries, like enterprise, automotive, and wearables.”

As smartphone technology increasingly incorporates satellite connectivity, users can expect improved network availability in remote or emergency situations. Skylo’s collaboration with Qualcomm aims to provide everyday smartphone users with peace of mind, ensuring robust connectivity regardless of location. This partnership also paves the way for future satellite integrations across diverse industry sectors, potentially transforming connectivity norms.
