The adoption of smartwatches has surged as the demand for personal health tracking increases in a world recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic. These devices, equipped with various sensors, play a crucial role in monitoring daily activities, including step counting. A recent experiment involving popular smartwatches revealed the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Classic’s superior accuracy over the Apple Watch Ultra 2 in a step-counting test conducted by tech reviewer Marques Brownlee, also known as MKBHD.
Testing the Step-Counting Precision
The evaluation involved Brownlee walking exactly 1,000 steps with multiple devices strapped on, among them the Apple Watch Ultra 2, Garmin Fenix 7, Samsung Galaxy Watch 6, Google Pixel Watch 2, and a basic pedometer. The goal was to ascertain how accurately each device tracked the number of steps taken.
Apple Falls Short, Samsung Nearly Perfect, Google Surpasses
In a surprising outcome, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 registered only 955 steps, missing the mark by a notable margin. In contrast, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Classic came close to perfection by recording 994 steps. The Google Pixel Watch 2, however, emerged as the most accurate device, capturing an impressive 998 steps.
While some followers were curious about how the test’s 1,000 steps were benchmarked, this query went unanswered. Nevertheless, the significant discrepancy between the devices’ step counts was enough to highlight the superior performance of Samsung’s wearable technology over Apple’s pricier offering.
