Stryker Corporation has recently announced its intent to exhibit cutting-edge joint replacement advancements and enhancements to the Mako surgical robotics system. During the AAOS event in San Francisco, the orthopedic leader will present its latest innovations, including myMako and the Triathlon Hinge, which aim at extending the Mako SmartRobotics experience for surgeons. The newly developed myMako app for Apple Vision Pro and iPhone provides an immersive visual experience for surgeons to review surgical plans conveniently.
Enhanced Surgical Planning and Execution
Stryker has focused on enriching the capabilities of the Mako platform throughout the year. The updated Mako Total Knee 2.0 launched in March 2023, and a targeted marketing campaign to patients was initiated in August 2023. With these updates, Stryker envisions an expansion of the robotic platform’s applications, including a Mako Spine launch and the introduction of Mako Shoulder expected by the end of 2024.
New Developments in Revision Knee Surgery
The Direct Anterior Reconstructive Technology (DART) represents another significant update to the Mako system, aiming to reduce the need for intra-operative fluoroscopy in certain hip replacement procedures. The Mako SmartRobotics, as part of the DART ecosystem, has shown precision in total hip arthroplasty surgical planning without relying on fluoroscopy.
Stryker is also set to launch the Triathlon Hinge, the latest innovation within its Triathlon brand. This advancement supports complex revision cases and mitigates challenges associated with bone loss or soft-tissue issues. The Triathlon Hinge simplifies revision procedures by offering a variety of intraoperative and post-operative options, ensuring seamless conversion during surgery.
This innovation underscores Stryker’s commitment to surgical excellence, providing a streamlined workflow and improved surgical efficiency. Lisa Kloes, vice president and general manager of Stryker’s Knees business, expressed her excitement about the positive impact the Triathlon Hinge will have on surgeons and patients alike.
Stryker’s advancements underscore the company’s ongoing dedication to enhancing surgical experiences and patient outcomes through innovation in robotic-assisted surgery and joint replacement technology.
