Tesla has introduced a new feature in its mobile app that allows users to filter charging options for non-Tesla electric vehicles (EVs). The latest update, version 4.35.1, was first spotted this week and includes the ability to sort charger locations by availability and distance, as well as filter by power output. The update aims to enhance the app’s utility, making it more user-friendly for a broader range of EV owners.

The new filtering options let users sort chargers by 0-70kW and 71-250kW, combining convenience with functionality. Not a Tesla App reported the update, highlighting the drop-down arrow that combines availability and distance sorting options. This development signifies Tesla’s ongoing efforts to improve its app’s features and user experience.

App’s Market Performance

Recently, J.D. Power rated Tesla’s mobile app as the best among original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), scoring 847 out of 1,000 points. Close competitors included Mercedes me connect, My BMW, Genesis Intelligent Assistant, and My Porsche. Meanwhile, apps from Subaru, VinFast, Volkswagen, and Chevy ranked lower on the list. This recognition underscores Tesla’s leadership in mobile application innovation within the automotive sector.

Earlier updates to the Tesla mobile app have introduced various functionalities, including a feature to avoid waking the vehicle to save battery life. The company has also launched Powerwall and home energy demos, accessible even to users without Tesla’s solar and battery products. Additionally, Tesla hinted at an upcoming Robotaxi ride-sharing platform within the app, although the launch event for this platform has been delayed. Shareholders are keen to receive more information during Tesla’s upcoming Q2 2024 earnings call.

Historically, Tesla has consistently enhanced its mobile app to provide additional features and improve user interaction. The app’s evolution has included integration with Tesla’s energy products and advanced vehicle control options. Previous updates have also hinted at future services such as the Robotaxi platform, aligning with Tesla’s broader vision for autonomous and shared mobility.

Compared to previous versions, this latest update reflects Tesla’s commitment to accommodating a wider range of electric vehicle users. The improved filtering options for non-Tesla EV chargers demonstrate Tesla’s focus on inclusivity and user convenience. The app’s consistent high ranking by J.D. Power reaffirms its robust features and ease of use, setting a benchmark for other OEMs in the industry.

Tesla’s latest app update introduces practical features for non-Tesla EV owners, increasing the app’s utility and reach. The addition of charging filters based on power output, along with the combined sort options, significantly enhances the user experience. As Tesla continues to innovate, the app’s high ranking by J.D. Power reflects its leading position in automotive mobile applications. This update hints at Tesla’s broader strategy of integrating energy solutions and future mobility services, paving the way for a more inclusive and user-friendly ecosystem.
