How Will Transatel’s 5G Upgrade Impact IoT Connectivity? What Benefits Do Cloud Native Solutions Provide? What Does This Means for Customers and Partners?

Companies and manufacturers worldwide increasingly rely on secure, low-latency connectivity for the expanding ecosystem of Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Transatel, a subsidiary of NTT and a longstanding leader in cellular IoT connectivity, is focusing on deploying advanced cloud-native solutions to meet the evolving requirements of industrial, automotive, and travel sectors. By selecting Oracle Communications’ cloud native 5G signaling core, Transatel looks to strengthen its position among major providers catering to millions of devices spread across international borders. This decision comes as competitive pressures increase and expectations for seamless, real-time data continue to rise in industries reliant on networked devices.

Recent coverage of Transatel’s advancements has highlighted alliances with various mobile network operators and investments in flexible, multi-network solutions. However, those initiatives leaned heavily on 3G and 4G networks and focused more on basic connectivity rather than on the real-time, scalable performance currently delivered under the new collaboration with Oracle. Previous technological enhancements were also less focused on cloud-native features, whereas the new arrangement emphasizes autonomous management and future scalability with 5G Standalone architecture.

How Will Transatel’s 5G Upgrade Impact IoT Connectivity?

Transatel will deploy core components of Oracle’s 5G Standalone (SA) platform, with plans to support critical applications—such as connected vehicles and industrial automation—across a network that already spans 300 carrier partners. These enhancements focus on enabling secure, reliable roaming and scaling up performance for enterprises that depend on high volumes of data exchange. By doing so, Transatel intends to better serve both present and future business cases, supporting a diverse array of real-time applications that demand uninterrupted and robust connections worldwide.

What Benefits Do Cloud Native Solutions Provide?

Through Oracle’s cloud-native 5G signaling core, Transatel will take advantage of Service Communication Proxy (SCP), Security Edge Protection Proxy (SEPP), and Network Repository Function (NRF). These tools are designed to provide central routing, increased security, and flexibility, all while promoting operational efficiencies over time. The interoperability of these cloud-native elements allows Transatel to manage both existing 4G and next-generation 5G services without disrupting current operations. This approach places emphasis on continuous management, adaptability, and preparing systems to respond to shifting industry needs.

What Does This Means for Customers and Partners?

As more industries accelerate their IoT deployments, Transatel’s enhanced security and real-time service capabilities are expected to meet the growing demands of customers in automotive, travel, and industrial sectors. Transatel CEO Jacques Bonifay shared,

“As IoT adoption accelerates across the automotive and industrial sectors, our customers expect secure, high-performant connectivity across the globe and beyond borders.”

By prioritizing stability and security for devices in complex roaming scenarios, Transatel is positioning itself to offer scalable solutions that address immediate requirements while maintaining a pathway for innovation.

Andrew Morawski, an executive from Oracle Regulated Industries, commented on the partnership’s value:

“With our cloud native 5G signaling core, Transatel can continue to scale and secure high-performance services for millions of connected devices everywhere around the world.”

Together, the integration aims to be cost-efficient and fortifies Transatel’s ability to safeguard mission-critical communications, protect network core assets, and launch new services as demand evolves.

Selecting a mature cloud-native 5G solution allows Transatel to efficiently bridge legacy infrastructures with the next phase of connectivity requirements, which increasingly depend on real-time responsiveness and cross-border security. For enterprise customers considering major IoT expansions, understanding how cloud-native platforms facilitate streamlined management, security enhancements, and operational scalability is crucial. Keeping an eye on how 5G Standalone networks are implemented and leveraged by companies like Transatel can provide valuable indicators for planning reliable, long-term connectivity strategies in dynamic industries.
