Ford has entered into a collaboration with Resideo Technologies to embark on a venture they have dubbed the EV-Home Power Partnership. This initiative aims to harness the energy storage capacity of electric vehicle (EV) batteries to revolutionize residential energy consumption.
Integrating EVs with Smart Home Technology
In the heart of the project lies the integration of Ford’s F-150 Lightning’s bidirectional charging capabilities with a sophisticated Resideo smart thermostat. The goal is to explore the possibilities of utilizing EV batteries to advance home energy management efficiency, resulting in savings on electricity bills for consumers and easing the burden on the power grid.
Striving for Efficient and Renewable Energy Use
Set to conclude by mid-2024, the project will evaluate the effectiveness of synchronizing bidirectional EV charging systems with smart home devices to diminish residential energy requirements, particularly during peak electricity demand periods. The initiative will also investigate the potential for these systems to tap into cleaner, renewable sources of energy when they are available.
Dana Huth, Resideo’s EVP and Chief Revenue Officer, emphasizes the significance of this project in reducing carbon emissions stemming from personal vehicles and home heating and cooling systems. By leveraging the F-150 Lightning’s battery for home energy, the initiative seeks to optimize residential comfort and energy efficiency.
